Review of the 9", 2 lb, Ultraportable Everex CloudBook

Here it is next to my size 13's without the battery

First impressions:  This thing is really, really light but it still maintains an aspect of sturdiness thanks to the overall quality of construction. You can squeeze the plastic molding hard and throw it on your bed without any fear of it falling apart. The battery is the only thing keeping this thing from lift-off during a strong breeze.

keys

The keyboard itself is small at first but I'm already getting used to it. The touch pad is located on the top right of the device (on top of the Everex logo) and the click buttons are on the opposite side to the left. The touchpad allows you to double tap and tap and drag however.

Installation: Boot-up time was about three minutes.

install

Installing was a pain in the butt because "Back" and "Next" buttons are hidden underneath the screen and there's no way to click them. I had to hit the tab key and blindy hit enter in order to move from one installation page to the next. After a couple restarts I finally figured it out.

 The dock.

I have a manual DCHP setup in my house and it took me about 15 minutes to finally get the settings just so as to get the internet enabled. But finally after much heartache, it worked! Firefox is pretty fast and the OS as a whole performs quite nicely. Open Office takes a good 25 seconds to start but runs smoothly otherwise.

What doesn't work yet:

  • The webcam
  • The mic
